In five words explain your business

Bespoke Cakes For All Occasions

What’s your favourite Cake and why?

My own chocolate cake is my favourite. Too often you get a chocolate cake somewhere and it looks promising but its dry or the flavour isn’t there. As a chocoholic, I found a recipe years ago that delivers! Its dark, moist and has that “oh my…” and eyes widen moment at the first taste. This cake is the main reason I have now joined a gym!

Why did you want to become a card partner?

I am a Derby mum myself and have been making cakes for friends and family for over 15 years. In April 2019, I took the leap to get registered and be an official business. Things are picking up nicely but being in partnership will really give that boost and exposure that I need to take the business where I want. in return, I would like to offer Derby Mums 10% off their orders.

What is the biggest trend of 2019 for you?

This year I have had a lot of interest in various trends and will always deliver my own take on them but what I love the most is when a cake request is really unique. My favourite ones this year include a festival themed housewarming cake, a 1st year in business cake for Active Bodies, a gravity defying drum set cake and I have seen my first wedding cake orders come in The fact that my cakes are bespoke, is what keeps me on my toes.

When did you get your lightbulb moment in business?

I took redundancy from a boring job when I was on maternity leave with my now 4yr old. Wanting to contribute at home (and needing to keep myself busy for my own sanity if nothing else), I had looked at serious job options that would involve the childcare, the travel and urgh, bosses. Then I just realised, “Gina, you love making cakes… people want to buy them… and it fits around the kids… at home” That was the moment I took the leap and got registered with my 5* rating. It was scary and exciting all at the same time.
